Friendship Bracelets Are in Now, Right?

Seeing all these friendship bracelets around gets me very happy, let me tell you. I have spent many days of my childhood (okay, maybe even teenage-hood.. oh wait I'm still a teenager, I guess that means my whole life thus far..) making friendship bracelets. But I have at least graduated from bracelets to bangles. Friendship bangles are the ultimate friendship bracelets in my opinion because they can incorporate every element that the bracelets usually have (thread, beads, hemp) into one bracelet. Also,whilst having all these elements, they still manage to add a level of sophistication with their solid structure that regular friendship bracelets can simply not achieve. So I have decided to make my own friendship bangles, because its always better to have a unique original piece, and come on, they're friendship bracelets, you're not supposed to buy them.
note: this does not mean I will not attempt to make regular floppy friendship bracelets in the near future.

My table of supplies and inspiration. I got everything from around my house, excluding the embroidery thread that I bought at a fabric store. The strips of fabric are trimmings from past sewing projects, they include some light pieces of denim and some stretchy pink bathing suit material. I didn't end up using everything here, but all you really need is old bangles, something to wrap them with, and a glue gun.

My first three.. they like to be together. For these I used leftover denim, jersey, bathing suit material, and some yellow embroidery thread. For the flower-shaped one I wrapped some of the pink material over wire, glued in down at intervals, then wrapped the intersections with thread or fabric.

And the piece de resistance, my 'if Prada and Proenza Schouler Spring 11 had a lovechild in the form of a friendship bangle + 1 pink tropical fish'

I don't think I need to show too many how-to pictures because the method is pretty straight forward. I will show you some from my PRAENZA SCHOUDA (okay, maybe stick with the lovechild thing) Basically all you need is a lot of random materials, and some alright glue-gun skills.

THRIFT, what would my wardrobe/wallet be without it?

I couldn't find a maxi skirt that I liked in any store, anywhere near my price range, until I went to Value Village, my true favourite store, and found this lovely silk floral print one for a grand total of 7 Canadian dollars. And so my love of thrift is ever increasing. Kind of a mixed-up outfit today, hope you like it! Oh yeah, and sorry for the two outfit posts in a row that include a jump pose, I find it really, really, hard to resist.

Pink Hair, Don't Care

So I've talked about how much I like brightly coloured hair in the past, but I could never actually go through with it.. I mean I don't think neon pink would exactly go with every look I want to go for. This is why I was so intrigued when I read an article on vogue.com suggesting to use brightly coloured makeup pigments for a one-night-wonder dye job. I was so intrigued in fact that I immediately (and I use that word quite literally) had to go out and buy brightly coloured makeup (I'm usually just a black eye-liner and blush sort of girl). I ended up buying 'pigment colour powder' from mac, in neo-orange. It is actually a really cool product because you can use it in multiple different ways- as powder, with liquid for a more matte look, added to nail polish, and in my case, to dye hair. My eyes are done with the same product. I was pleased with the result directly after I applied it to the hair, but I don't know if I would actually do it for going out at night.. it tends to get on to your clothes and it faded faster than I would have liked. What do you guys think?

Also, as of yesterday morning, I have now been accepted to Fashion Communication at Ryerson University. It was the one program I really wanted to get into I could not possibly be happier.

Suburban Sunshine

I got this Marc Jacobs skirt in a vintage shop on a trip to New York with my grade 10 fashion class. I think I purchased it solely for the purpose that I could say that I owned something Marc Jacobs. (Everyone is in grade 10 once, right?) I never wore it then but I have recently started rolling it up at the hem and adding a skinny belt, and now I love it! The denim has a cool turquoisey tinge to it and I really like it's boxy shape.

I got an offer for the Fashion Design program at Ryerson University today (Fashion Communication still under review) conditional on my final math mark (which I have handed in already but it needs time to process).  I am totally thrilled. Dime Bag

I scored two great deals today, earrings and a bag. I got the earrings from Value Village for 25 cents. They kind of remind me of something a stylish flapper girl would buy in the 1920s from a gift shop of a King Tut exhibit. (Random, I know, but I could not get this image out of my head.) They are huge and really make a statement, so I cannot wait to try them out.
I got the bag at h&m for about 7 dollars. I think it will be a great go-to summer bag. It has a classic shape that's easy to wear with anything but the grate effect makes it modern and fun and perfect for showing off colourful cellphone cases that, in my opinion, deserve more time in the spotlight than they usually get. But what I really adore about this bag is that I can clip on and off random pins whenever I please to spice things up. (I am constantly looking for places to put pins that don't make me look like an emo kid.) Here I'm showing it with a lovely little bow brooch.

Hermes For YOU

Personalized Hermes scarves. (Please excuse my lack of accents on e's) Now you can get them embroidered with whatever words/symbols you want for some obscene amount of money. Vogue says they would opt for the black one with white ribbons that say Hermes all over them because apparently if you pay that much, you want to show it off. But personally I find the one with the pencil crayons and shavings just absolutely darling. Dear American Vogue, if I wanted something just because it said Hermes, I would get a fake, DUH.

Take Shelter

I don't know what puts me in a better mood, outfits that incorporate cute animals or outfits that incorporate an elements that float delightfully around you while you spin. Either way, this outfit has them both, so today was a good day. I was doing double-time africa animals, there is a parrot/toucan-like bird pin in my hair that isn't that visible, but I will show it off in a later post. It was a very rainy day so I had to run to the bus shelter, desperately trying to protect my camera, so please ignore my weird facial expressions and enjoy!
